Job Summary

Serves as a respiratory clinical specialist for staff, nurses, and physicians. May supervise respiratory therapists, and / or hold daily shift responsibility for department operations and assigning caseloads.Under the direction of the RCS Director, RCS Medical Director, Chest Clinic Pulmonary Medical Director and Outpatient Sleep Clinic Medical Director, the RCS Outpatient Clinic Coordinator assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all clinics where RCS provides staffing and services. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $152,400 - $228,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF's Department of Anesthesia is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine at UCSF. The missions of the department include research (basic and clinical), teaching, patient care, and public service. The department is organized across five sites. The Department of Anesthesia provides anesthesia service for UCSF's five integrated facilities: Moffitt/Long Hospital (pre-op, inpatient and outpatient), Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (inpatient and outpatient, including a very active trauma service), San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (inpatient and outpatient), Mission Bay Hospital (OB and Pediatric inpatient and outpatients), and the UCSF/Mt. Zion Medical Center (inpatient and outpatient, including a chronic pain management clinic).

Respiratory Care Services (RCS) provides care throughout the hospital and works closely with the renowned trauma service at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. ZSFG operates the only level 1 trauma center for more than 1.5 million residents of San Francisco and northern San Mateo County in its new, state of the art facility which opened in May 2016. RCS plays a vital role in the emergency department which treats more than 3,000 severely injured patients every year. On the general care wards, RCS also provides consultation to emergency response team members and as care providers for tracheostomy patients. In addition, RCS has a growing presence in the out-patient pulmonary clinics as primary care givers, advisors and consultants.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Maintains advanced knowledge in respiratory care theory and industry best practices. Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements to Respiratory operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of hospital policies, processes and regulatory compliance. Ability to apply knowledge to proactively identify potential risk in Respiratory department.
  • Leadership skills including effective communication, coaching and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate staff activities.
  • Advanced ability to build relationships, collaborate, and coordinate across the organization.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and data management systems used in clinical departments.
  • Knowledge and skill to teach respiratory patient care concepts to staff.
  • Proven analytical ability and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (NRP)

License/Certification


  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of California.
  • Asthma Education Certification
  • Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (NRP) - Preferred
