Certified Surgical Assistant I Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital - Charlottesville, VA ~Full Time and Evening shift~ 9:00am-9:00pm 36 hours/week Schedule: Block scheduling, 3 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 6 days off (Ex: would work W, TH, F be off the weekend work M, T, W and come back in the next Wednesday). No call required. Up to $15,000 sign on bonus for qualified candidates! Overview The Certified Surgical Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team, the Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, set up of various tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes. Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice Education TS - Trade School Graduate - Surgical Assistant Certification/Licensure Licensed Surgical Assistant - Virginia Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - Certifications - National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) OR Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - Certifications - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Experience Operating room experience (preferred) Department Information:Performing an average of 7,000 cases each year, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including; Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic and Orthopedic surgery. It is also the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.
