Senior Compliance & Vehicle Systems Engineer (Autonomous Driving) Role Summary: The Systems and Safety team is responsible for the development of requirements and safety aspects necessary to support US public road fleet operations. Within this team, the Sr. Compliance and Vehicle Operations Systems Engineer will be responsible for comprehensively understanding and addressing the scope of requirements related to the operation of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) beyond the Dynamic Driving Tasks (DDT). These include, but are not limited to, passenger management, fleet operations, remote assistance, and interactions with first responders. The person in this role will also actively interface with product developers, operations partners, government officials, law enforcement, first responders, and local transportation departments, to identify their needs, ensure compliance, develop requirements, and oversee their effective implementation and strategies to verify and validate the functionality. Role Responsibilities: * Identify relevant requirements for the AV, fleet operations, remote assistance, first responder interactions etc. in the US. This includes requirements from laws, regulations, standards, best practices, and the state-of-the-art developments across the industry. * Navigate the complexities of balancing requirements between legal interpretation vs business needs. * Work cross-functionally across product managers, safety engineers, operations leads, government and community engagement teams to develop non-DDT requirements and parameters for US operations. * Proactively engage with relevant VW Group of America stakeholders (Safety Office, Legal, Product, Operations, etc.) to assess project relevance. * Interface with relevant government officials such as Law Enforcement, First Responders, Local Transportation Departments to ensure compliance with local regulations and their needs such as communication with AV or the operator. * Conduct regular reviews with an implementation team to ensure requirements are met and get buy-in. * Guide and advocate for the requirements through the appropriate change process (participation in committees, decomposition of requirements). * Interface with V&V team on establishing pass-fail criteria and test modalities (HIL, track, fleet, etc.) for the verification of developed requirements. Supporting responsibilities: * Develop or support necessary artifacts for specific requirements (scenario examples, technical concepts, impact chains, influence on other functionalities, first responder interaction plans etc.). * Tailoring of the safety case for US operations. Qualifications Years of Relevant Experience: * 7+ years of experience in a requirement focused role in the development of autonomous vehicles. Education - Required:

Required Specialized Skills: * Strong record working in the field of systems engineering and safety as it relates to requirements development and management. * Expertise with the application of systems engineering principles to safety critical systems. * Strong understanding of evaluation of autonomous systems including pass/fail criteria, metrics, requirements, and more. * Expertise working with regulations and regulatory authorities. * Strong foundation in systems engineering fundamentals Desired Specialized Skills:
Work Flexibility:
The average base salary range for this role in Belmont, CA will be $165,000 - $185,000, plus an annual bonus target and other incentives and benefits.
