Job Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing the purchasing, production, scheduling, inventory and warehousing of materials. Authorized to negotiate purchasing contacts and make purchases within defined company limits. Authorized to make strategic and operational decisions related to material procurement, supplier selection, inventory management, and logistics. Responsible for reporting key metrics, inventory status and supplier performance to upper management. Authorize to approve time, hire, discipline and terminate employees within company polices.


  • Lead and manage a team of buyers, planners, and shipping/receiving personnel, providing direction, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements and production demands
  • Work closely with departmental production managers, analyze product demand, sales patterns/forecasts, production specifications and plant capacity
  • Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers
  • Proactively address and resolve material shortages, long lead times, and supplier constraints to reduce supply chain risk.
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies while managing supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Create, monitor, and adjust production schedules based on demand forecasts, capacity planning, and material availability.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through routine cycle counts and inventory analysis; ensure optimal stock turnover and minimal obsolescence.
  • Manages departmental budgets
  • Oversee shipping and receiving operations to ensure accurate, timely deliveries and compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce transportation costs and improve logistics performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing supply chain processes, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date data entry and system usage within the ERP platform for all materials-related transactions.
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (Epicor preferred), supply chain processes, and lean inventory practices.
  • Ability to analyze data to forecast material needs, manage departmental budgets, and optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Proven problem-solving skills to identify and resolve supply chain issues quickly and effectively.
  • Strong negotiation skills with experience in managing vendor contracts, pricing, and logistics agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional coordination.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, and/or production scheduling. At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role. APICS certification preferred.
