Research Associate designs, executes and manages research projects conducting preclinical studies in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory in the Preclinical Therapeutics Mouse Modeling Shared Resource (PTMMSR) core facility. Collaborates with principal investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies and study result interpretation. Conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments. Plans and executes advanced molecular, cellular and preclinical animal study techniques. Plans, coordinates and oversees processing and analysis of data; analyzes and interprets research data. Develops and implements new and/or revised research methodology and techniques in collaboration with senior research associate staff within PTMMSR. Plans and tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and develop and establish research controls, criteria and standards. Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research. Collaborate with principal investigator to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication, writing project reports, and other documents. Attends and represents PTMMSR at internal scientific conferences and workshops. Assists with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals to obtain new or renewal of intramural and extramural funding in support of research. Participate in developing and managing PTMMSR operational budgets, monitor expenses and contacts vendors for price quotes, discounts and deals. Monitors and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials. Trains and/or supervise junior research staff as needed. Oversee and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment. Provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment. Negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs.

Required Qualifications:

A bachelors degree in appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Desired Qualifications:

1+ years of experience conducting preclinical mouse studies (either oncology or non-oncology) is required. Must be extremely comfortable working/handling live mice. Experience performing survival surgeries is highly desirable. Familiarity with cell-culture techniques is also highly desired.
