Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as Assistant General Counsel - Employment and Labor.

Under the direction of the Associate General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel provides competent, timely legal advice and assistance in connection with labor and employment legal matters, working closely with the Human Resources team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Investigate external labor and employment claims and draft position statements and other submissions to attorneys and administrative agencies including the EEOC, Department of Labor, and NLRB.
  • Provide day-to-day real time advice to the HR team and other leaders on a range of labor and employment issues, including hiring, termination, workplace accommodations, leaves of absence, restructuring, and wage and hour concerns.
  • Provide guidance on collective bargaining agreements and represent employer at collective bargaining and union arbitrations.
  • Counsel Human Resources on employee complaints and investigations.
  • Oversee federal and state court labor and employment litigation, including management of outside counsel and navigating litigation strategy and resolution.
  • Monitor employment law developments, advise internal clients, and provide policy updates and training to ensure compliance with applicable law
  • Work on multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines on a self-motivated basis; prioritize work while keeping appropriate attorney(s) apprised of project status; lead and coordinate other special projects, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications:
Admission to the New York Bar with two (2) to five (5) years experience in labor and employment law; experience in a law firm and/or unionized health care industry and/or academic medical center is preferred,
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong research skills.
Ability to work collegially and pro-actively with a wide variety of personnel.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Client focused.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $185,000.00 - $215,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
