DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Our internship program is intended to provide you with a broad understanding of government operations at the state level. This internship provides weekly opportunities where you will engage with senior leadership across DGS, learning the duties and intricacies of our work. The summer schedule events also include tours of the capitol facilities, Governor's Residence, and a visit to Commonwealth Media Services (CMS) studios. You will be participating in a training session conducted by our leg affairs director to increase your understanding of the complexity of executive and legislative bodies collaboration to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians. As a Bureau of Diversity, Inclusion & Small Business Opportunities Intern, you will have the opportunity to develop skills that align with your future. Work involves:
- Assisting with the implementation of new micro and mid-size small business programs by conducting internal and external research
- Creating a diversity calendar for marketing and media content, highlighting relevant cultural and historical events
- Monitoring BDISBO links on other agency websites to ensure accuracy and functionality
- Researching diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content ideas for social media outlets, promoting awareness and engagement
- Compiling data and analyzing information related to small business participation in Commonwealth contracting
- Assisting in the development of reports and presentations on diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Supporting the organization and coordination of outreach events and workshops for small businesses
- Researching best practices for diversity and inclusion in government contracting and procurement
- Assisting in the review and updating of BDISBO program materials and resources
- Supporting the development of communication strategies to promote BDISBO programs
- Assisting in the creation of surveys and feedback mechanisms for program evaluation
- Supporting the tracking of small business participation metrics
- Assisting in the creation of promotional materials for small business outreach
- Assisting in the analysis of demographic data related to business ownership
- Supporting the bureau in the creation of training materials
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Internship, part-time, June 2025 through August 2025
- Schedule to be determined later with the selected candidate and the bureau.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office at minimum one day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- Must be enrolled in college full-time or part-time pursuing a 2- or 4-year degree program in Economics, Business, Marketing, History, Social Justice, or Political Science
- Must be currently in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
- 18 years or age or older
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
