THE POSITION

The Bureau of Real Estate (BRE) within the Department of General Services (DGS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented college intern to assist with reviewing, analyzing, and developing instruction manuals and user guides for its business operations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience in government real estate processes, business operations documentation, and procedural analysis. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Our internship program is intended to provide you with a broad understanding of government operations at the state level. This internship provides weekly opportunities where you will engage with senior leadership across DGS, learning the duties and intricacies of our work. The summer schedule events also include tours of the capitol facilities, Governor's Residence, and a visit to Commonwealth Media Services (CMS) studios. You will be participating in a training session conducted by our leg affairs director to increase your understanding of the complexity of executive and legislative bodies collaboration to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians. As a Bureau of Real Estate Intern, you will have the opportunity to develop skills that align with your future. Work involves:

  • Conducting research and analysis on existing business operations within BRE to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for process improvement
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to gather information on key real estate policies and leasing procedures
  • Developing, drafting, and refining instructional manuals and procedural guides for various business processes within BRE
  • Developing process maps for BRE Core Business processes
  • Assisting with standardizing documentation to ensure consistency, clarity, and compliance with agency policies
  • Participating in meetings and discussions with BRE staff to gain insights into operational workflows
  • Providing recommendations for improving documentation practices and streamlining business processes
  • Performing additional administrative and analytical tasks as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Internship, part-time, June 2025 through August 2025
  • Schedule to be determined later with the selected candidate and the bureau.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office at minimum one day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in college full-time or part-time pursuing a 2- or 4-year degree program in Business Administration, Public Administration, Real Estate, Communications, or a related field.
  • Currently in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • 18 years or age or older.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other documentation tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Interest in government operations, real estate, and business process improvement
