Overview:

Rimkus is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Digital Forensic Examiner to conduct thorough and legally sound investigations of digital media. The Digital Forensic Examiner will be responsible for the acquisition, preservation, analysis, and reporting of digital. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of digital forensics principles, methodologies, and tools, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions



  • Perform forensic examinations of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) running iOS and Android operating systems.
  • Conduct logical and physical extractions of data from mobile devices using industry-standard hardware and software (e.g., Cellebrite, Magnet AXIOM, Oxygen Forensic Detective).
  • Employ techniques to bypass or overcome device security features (where legally permissible and ethical) to access data.
  • Perform data recovery from damaged, locked, or malfunctioning mobile devices.
  • Analyze mobile device data, including but not limited to: call logs, SMS/MMS messages, contacts, photos, videos, email, application data, web history, location data, and social media activity.
  • Conduct SIM card and SD card analysis.
  • Document all findings, methodologies, and chain of custody in clear and concise reports specifically detailing mobile device examinations.
  • Present technical findings related to mobile device evidence to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current mobile forensic trends, tools, and techniques, as well as mobile operating system updates and security features.
  • Adhere to established forensic procedures, legal guidelines, and ethical standards related to mobile device evidence.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members on investigations involving mobile devices.


Required Education and Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity, Law Enforcement, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience and relevant certifications may be considered.
  • 3 + years of experience in digital forensics investigations, with a significant portion focused on mobile device forensics.


Required Skills and Abilities



  • Proven expertise in using mobile forensic tools such as Cellebrite UFED/Physical Analyzer, Magnet AXIOM, Oxygen Forensic Detective, and others.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, specifically applied to mobile device data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate mobile forensic findings.
  • Understanding of legal and evidentiary procedures related to mobile device evidence.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Relevant certifications such as Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner (CCME), Magnet Certified Forensic Examiner (MCFE), Oxygen Forensic Certified Examiner (OCFE), or GIAC Mobile Device Security Analyst (GMOB).
  • Experience with advanced mobile forensic techniques, such as JTAG and chip-off.
  • Knowledge of mobile malware analysis.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for mobile forensic tasks.
