Job Title: RPG Senior Programmer, Remote

Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group - Soft-Pak

Location: Remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Programmer will develop software applications written primarily in RPGLE and related IBM i languages (RPGLE, CL, SQL and DB2) for release with Soft-Pak licensed software. This Senior Programmer will also provide professional customer support on an as needed basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Designs, documents, develops, maintains, supports, and implements projects written for the IBM i platform using RPGLE, embedded SQL, CLLE, DDS.
  • Codes and test applications in development environment according to functional and technical specifications.
  • Follows established software development life cycle which likely includes documenting functional and technical specifications of the project.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to build and document business requirements.
  • Follow established programming standards and contribute to defining new best practices.
  • Completes projects and tasks in timely manner that meet the project requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Customer Support as needed which could include after-hours support.
  • Communicates effectively verbally, written, or via electronic mediums.
  • Strong Technical, Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Maintain a positive contribution as a member of the Programming Team.
  • Assist in customer implementation and upgrades.
  • Keeps up to date on the latest enhancements to the IBM ILE languages.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Development and Support in the IBM i environment.
  • Heavy experience with RPGLE, DDS, embedded SQL and SQL required.
  • Strong interactive RPGLE and DDS screen programming skills required.
  • Sound technical knowledge of IBM technologies (RPG, ILE, CL, CLLE, SQL and DB2 programming) and communicating with other systems. VB.NET, Java and other Object-Oriented languages a plus.
  • Demonstrates high level of self-motivation, initiative with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Change Management tools and Project Time tracking.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in successful implementation and integration of new software systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with other technical experts and develop solution and functional design documents to support development of final solutions.
  • Excellent team player with positive attitude, strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must have a general knowledge of Microsoft products.

Applies a sense of urgency to resolve problems or creates opportunities that will increase productivity and create value. Shares best practices with other employees across the business.

Accountability: Accepts responsibility and accessibility for both the strategic planning and the successful implementation of all projects, programs, and duties as outlined in this job description. Advises supervisor of concerns, problems and progress of work in a timely manner.
