What You'll Do

Under the direction of laboratory management and senior staff, will perform the following:



  • Ensures all waste is properly managed, segregated, packaged and stored according to site requirements, DOE requirements and federal regulations.
  • Ensures all waste is properly entered and tracked in the site SAP Waste database.
  • Assists in the development and modifications of procedures as needed within the Analytical Chemistry Organization Waste Management Group.
  • Provides waste support to various support groups including laboratory operations, maintenance & facility modernization activities.
  • Responsible for the sampling of various waste streams within ACO as needed.
  • Performs waste inspections of waste storage areas according to site requirements and regulations.
  • Interface with waste generators, waste engineers, and alternate waste certification officials to ensure all facets of waste packaging are addressed.
  • Performs the physical packaging of waste of various waste streams according to site requirements and supporting organizations
  • Assists in the coordination of waste movement on-site with other organizations.
  • Performs various waste functions in various contamination areas.
  • Responsible for entering sampling data into LIMS as needed for waste sampling activities.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in related discipline: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience handling waste and/or working in chemistry laboratory.Typical relevant experience 10+ years.
  • ORhigh school diploma: Minimum 11years of relevant experience.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e.,High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Experience with chemical and radiological waste management, packaging, transportation, and disposal. Experience with waste generated at Department of Energy nuclear facilities and analytical chemistry laboratories.
  • Knowledge of the Y-12 SAP Waste database.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in forklift operations.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
This position may be categorized as a "designated position" identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
