Summary/Primary Purpose: Develops, promotes, manages, and operates assigned social service ministries in greater Des Moines area (Polk, Dallas, and Warren counties). Adheres to basic social work principles including and maintaining confidentiality per The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope philosophy, and social service policies/guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
- Completes intake and interviews with clients requesting material assistance and determine level of need, situation and assistance provided. Maintains the appointment calendar for all requests for service. Ensure all forms and approval processes are followed correctly.
- Develops case plans and monitor client progress toward objectives.
- Engages clients in individualized and family case management through Pathway of Hope and provide related coordinated and collaborative case management services with Pastoral support and oversight.
- Maintain a list of community agencies providing aid and make referrals where appropriate.
- Ensures appropriate oversight, documentation, and monitoring of social services budget and relating financial expenditures.
- Ensures and maintains timely, accurate, confidential, and detailed case management files, data, and referral materials in approved social services and case management databases, DMARC, Food Bank, TSA Stats and SIMS (Salvation Army Information Management System).
- Provides management, reports, and oversight of food pantry, mobile social services, food drives, commodities, and foodbank, EFSP, and working with existing volunteers. Maintain and organize client waiting area, food pantry and warehouse spaces.
- Promotes social service ministry programs and needs through community contacts and various agency meetings.
- Establish and cultivate professional community agency relationships and participate in area agency meetings as assigned.
- Research, compile and keep accurate reports, demographics, and statistics for TSA, EFSP, commodities and various other grants.
- Effectively and responsively relate to diverse populations with dignity, respect, and a non-judgmental approach. Explain procedures, rights, responsibilities, and confidentiality.
- Promote TSA programs and events.
- Assist with seasonal programs and services, including Christmas Distribution, school supplies, and food drives.
- Driving is required to carry out responsibilities and work assignments.
- Provides administrative support including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate staff, and providing excellent customer service to ensure a positive experience for all clients and stakeholders.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma; Bachelors in Social Work preferred or 2-3 years' experience in social work. Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
- Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
- Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
- Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.
Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
