The Pharmacy Coordinator is a Pharmacist position involved in the coordination of the daily activities of the assigned practice area. This position works closely with the pharmacy supervisors and manager/director to ensure that the practice area has appropriate staffing levels, staff are compliant with hospital and department policies and competencies, and ensures area adheres to federal, state and local regulatory guidelines.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversight for scheduling of assigned pharmacists, residents, and/or technicians.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Leads staff development projects (design, implementation, measuring impact).
  • Assists in planning, design, implementation and demonstrates the value of pharmacy services.
  • Assists with the recruitment of new employees for the department.
  • Provides on-call support for area of practice as needed.
  • Maintains outstanding skills as a clinical pharmacy practitioner.
  • Participates with student and resident education.
  • Provides educational lectures (UMMMC, State/Local, National).
  • Coordinates and schedules the department staff meetings and in-services.
  • Works with peers to achieve departmental and institutional strategic goals.
  • Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth.
  • Maintains familiarity with all departmental programs and works as integral part of the pharmacy team.
  • Provides guidance to the staff for effective teamwork and motivation. Fosters the effective integration of efforts.
  • Completes management training programs appropriate for level of supervision exercised in the department.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications:

The Pharmacy Coordinator must meet and maintain all the following qualifications:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent required.
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist in Massachusetts.
  • ASHP accredited pharmacy practice residency experience preferred.
  • Minimum of five years' experience as a Pharmacist with three to five years within a hospital environment preferred.
  • Must have a positive work ethic, motivate other team members and promote a professional work environment.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
