RK&K's Construction Engineering Inspection and Construction Management Division is hiring Coatings Inspector 1 and 2. As a Coatings Inspector with RK&K you will apply your knowledge of coatings, construction, safety, quality, and materials to provide critical inspection services on heavy civil construction sites. Including highway, bridge, design/design-build projects. Opportunities for growth and training into team leadership, construction management, and office engineering careers.

Essential Function




  • Provide construction management support, including inspection and monitoring of construction structures to ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Fully engage in solving complex problems to provide technical evaluation and sound solutions
  • Monitor the activities of other Inspectors
  • Ability to communicate effectively across different platforms with project management, clients, stakeholders, and contractors
  • Interface with clients, state and federal agencies, and other engineering disciplines on construction projects
  • Recordkeeping and reporting as required



RK&K hires those with contracting, military, surveying, and related experience; we will provide further training.

Required Skills and Experience (Coatings Inspector 1)




  • High School Diploma or GED and six (6) months minimum experience in structural steel coating application inspection.
  • Must have a minimum of 8 hours documented training (internal or external) in the use of basic coatings inspection tools and equipment.
  • Inspectors must also be trained in accordance with all applicable OSHA regulations including 29CFR 1910.134 (Respiratory Protection) and 29 CFR 1926.501 (Duty to have Fall Protection) prior to the job assignment.


Note: A Coatings Inspector 1 must work under the direction of a Coatings Inspector 2 or 3 assigned to that project.

Required Skills and Experience (Coatings Inspector 2)




  • Three (3) years minimum experience in structural steel coatings application inspection, which includes six (6) months of coatings inspection experience on bridges
  • NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 - Certified or higher.
  • Each Coating Inspector 2 must also have lead abatement training (SSPC-C3) prior to the job assignment.


Note: SSPC Bridge Coating Inspector Program (BCI) Level 1 may be substituted for one (1) year of experience in structural steel coating application inspection
