Summary Responsible for recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers and adoption partners/rescue groups. The position's role involves increasing volunteer and community engagement, improving and increasing community education, and implement strategies to effectively increase shelter's live release rate. Also responsible for planning, promoting, and coordinating public awareness of the services, programs, and compliance issues associated with the Animal Services Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Coordinate volunteer recruitment, training, retention and scheduling processes. Oversee and direct volunteer assignments. Recruit, train, and supervise work activities of part-time staff and volunteers as necessary to meet goals. Develop and administer the department's social media strategies to educate and engage the community, improve animals returned to their owners, increase donations and attendance at adoption events. Prepare articles for department newsletter and City Press. Oversee a comprehensive public education program related to Animal Services outreach efforts. Coordinate adoption partner recruitment and transfer processes. Organize placement of foster care animals and follow up appointments. Update and maintain database and other records by entering current and accurate information. Prepare and maintain detailed monthly reports for Shelter Director. Work in cooperation with other Animal Services personnel to accomplish and further its goals. Operate and maintain all social media outlets pertaining to Animal Services. Develop impactful creative ways to resonate with the community through social media. Focus on delivering impactful messages in a brand safe environment. Creates and distributes engaging written or graphic content in the form of social media messages. Collect and maintain accurate record of payment for services. Keep current inventory of necessary program supplies and report shortages to the Shelter Director. Participate in educational programs and special events. Act as Public Information Officer (PIO) for Animal Services, attend internal and external PIO meetings and training as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Four-year college degree in Public Relations, Journalism, or related field Up to 1 year of related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Four-year college degree in Public Relations, Journalism, or related field 1-3 years in service related work; conducting public outreach and education programs Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish) Experience in various social media marketing mediums
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and Publisher Skill with graphic designing and preferred Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with internal and external stakeholders Ability to communicate and work within a diverse workforce Ability to establish and maintain a photo library for department
