Summary:
The Benefits Specialist administers, maintains, implements, and communicates company benefits programs including health, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, flexible spending, retirement plans, and service awards. This position supports initiatives including annual enrollment, data maintenance, and other projects related to teammate offerings. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Provides clear and comprehensive public speaking presentations to all new teammates concerning benefit offerings during bi-weekly orientation. Presents benefits information at annual open enrollment and conducts informational sessions for teammates.
- Monitors benefit enrollment activity. Proactively sends reminders of benefits enrollment deadlines to newly eligible teammates. Identifies and ensures outstanding/pending enrollment items are processed in a timely manner.
- Assists walk-in or phone traffic with benefits related questions from initial contact following through until issues are resolved to include medical, dental, life, disability, flexible spending, retirement/pension, etc.
- Plans logistics for benefits fair at annual enrollment time. Works with vendors to ensure Benefits Guide is updated annually.
- Assists teammates with the application process for the pension plan and refers teammates to the pension service center for election processing.
- Administers the claim process for death and accident insurance claims. Assists with any continuation of benefits for surviving spouses/dependent children.
- Manages and maintains monthly interface files between various vendors. Compiles reports and analyzes and synthesizes data in order to communicate key HR metrics and satisfy reporting requirements. Ensures appropriate persons receive the completed reports. Generates ad hoc reports, as needed.
- Analyzes teammate hours of service to determine if they are full-time or not under the ACA. Reviews data to determine if an offer of medical insurance coverage should be extended. Extends an offer of coverage to teammates who are considered to be full-time.
- Monitors the employer side of the retirement vendor's portal. Reviews data feeds for integrity, responds to and completes task assignments within the portal, and takes action or makes note of key action dates.
- Coordinates the annual Service Awards Program and Retirement Dinner as well as quarterly service award distribution.
- Conducts routine reviews and audits of benefit vendor census and billing data to ensure accurate enrollments counts and expense reconciliation.
Other information:
Education
Associate's degree in appropriate field from an accredited college/university, Bachelor's preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) preferred.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of benefits or related human resources experience required.
