Description & Requirements
Forvis Mazars is seeking a Tax Manager - Aviation. In this role you will be managing and reviewing the preparation of tax-related computations related to corporate aircraft including entertainment use, fringe benefit imputed income, and IRC 280F qualified business use. You will be responsible for timely delivery of computations for inclusion in information, employment and income tax returns, as well as updating clients on year-to-date computations and projections to assist with tax planning. You will consult with clients on issues related to state sales, use, and property tax, excise tax, contemporaneous documentation requirements, and proper treatment of passengers on board flights. You will meet with clients to review questions regarding internally prepared flight logs and passenger lists. You will assist with aviation related matters that are under examination by the IRS or state tax authorities.
How you will contribute:
  • Gathering and analyzing flight log activity and passenger coding
  • Preparing fringe benefit calculations
  • Preparing IRC 274 entertainment cost disallowance calculations
  • Preparing IRC 280F qualified business use calculations
  • Helping implement a new workflow system and manage reporting deadlines
  • Preparing and filing various state sales tax returns
  • Preparing annual property tax renditions for various states
  • Assisting with Federal Excise Tax calculations and reporting
  • Researching tax laws for federal and state tax compliance
  • Recommending tax strategies by researching federal, state, and local taxation issues
  • Reviewing impact of new laws and regulations on aviation clients
  • Drafting tax memorandums with research findings
  • Developing and streamlining procedures to build efficiencies and automation
  • Firm administration duties include workflow management, process development, assistance with marketing efforts, training and developing new staff, billing and collecting, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting
  • 2-3 years' experience related to aviation taxation
  • Strong tax knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, with a focus on Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active CPA certification
  • 5-7 years' experience with preparing income tax returns
