Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Foster Care & Adoption Program Assistant. The successful candidate will join the prevention and protection services division and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.


Job Summary

This position supports the Program Manager and staff of the Foster Care and Adoption unit. Successful candidates should be resourceful, self-motivated, well-organized, have great time management skills, work well in a team environment and problem-solve independently.
Under general direction, the Foster Care and Adoption Program Assistant:

  • Provides administrative support for daily unit functions, special events, meetings, including maintaining required program documentation.
  • Provides courteous and timely customer service to County staff, vendors, foster parents, and clients.
  • Assists with purchasing activities, including reconciling accounts against receipts and invoices and working with staff, vendors, medical providers and foster parents to resolve invoice or receipt discrepancies.
  • Maintains and updates unit case management lists on an ongoing basis. Reports unit metrics monthly. Assists in preparing quarterly and semi-annual grant reports.
  • May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Working knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, office forms and applications, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Some knowledge of basic human service needs and state computer programs.
  • Skill in operating various automated office equipment including calculator, fax/copier, and using multiple Microsoft software packages, computer-driven word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and file maintenance programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to: work with clients, co-workers, professionals, and the public; read and comprehend grant application requirements; write professional correspondence; present information in one-on-one and small group situations; and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and post data from records, reports, and other sources using the various formats.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: B i-lingual skills in Spanish.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Criminal background check required. Based on assigned program area a credit and/or DMV check may also be required. For DMV check, valid driver's license and good driving record required (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • For licensed programs requirements include: Fingerprinting, TB test within 30 days of hire; pass Child Protective Services (CPS) check; hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months. Some programs may have additional legal requirements, credentials, or certifications to meet prior to hire or within the probationary period and/or annually.
