Job Summary
#CA-DS The Senior Director of Academics serves as a strategic partner for the Dean, Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs, the school's academic and practice leadership and the School of Nursing's education team in overseeing new educational programs, sustaining continuous programs, accreditation program activities, and program visibility strategies that support the vision and mission of the School of Nursing.
The Senior Director of Academics' leadership and expertise oversees complex and fast-paced strategic deliverables for continuous and new graduate degree offerings for the School of Nursing. This role requires unique problem solving to pursue new certificate offerings for working professionals. It also requires the ability to oversee the operational process of meeting deliverables including work plans, policies, and procedures in compliance with accreditation and University requirements, and management of complex timelines through facilitation of internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent is expected to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in their decision making regarding researching, analyzing, and presenting necessary background information to make recommendations to the Dean, Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs and Leadership Team in responding to a wide variety of complex needs and program opportunities. This includes calling and planning for strategic meetings to facilitate progress and sharing pertinent information through emails, documents, or presentations to the school's academic leadership team. This position requires a great deal of autonomy, flexibility, communication skills, and political acumen.
Requirements for this position include a working knowledge of UC Davis, accreditation processes, UC system wide, and School of Nursing, policy and procedures, and campus resources. Expertise in leadership and managing a team. Experience working in a flexible team environment, maintaining composed demeanor when interacting with peers, staff, faculty, employees, colleagues. Experiencing contributing to a diverse. Supporting team members growth and development with annual evaluations with a yearly plan for professional enhancement and education. - Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of education (e.g., instructional/educational technology or curriculum design) or related discipline and/or equivalent education/training.
- Supervisory experience to train, monitor, evaluate, and document Human Resources issues and performance.
- Advanced knowledge extensive experience in the use of instructional design principles and models, and instructional design process in a higher education setting, preferably in the nursing or other health professions field.
- Advanced Knowledge and experience in integrating technology into the online teaching/learning process to meet learning objectives.
- Advanced Knowledge and experience in strategic planning, analytical and program evaluation to provide recommendations.
- Advanced Knowledge and experience with online technology design concepts and practices.
- Advanced Knowledge and experience applying online instructional technology in innovative ways to design effective learning and teaching solutions.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills to assume new assignments and independently follow through to successful completion; to manage details of complex projects, develop goals/plans for resolution and implementation. Skill to organize and analyze data systematically to report results and recommendations clearly.
- Advanced independent decision making skills to work with ambiguities where clear guidelines are not present. Demonstrated skills to identify issues, provide recommendations referrals, and seek resources to develop solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of data management and the ability to develop and maintain computerized reports and to quickly and accurately produce reports, presentations and documents.
- Ability to accurately maintain and update data tables, extract data and create ad hoc reports from database platforms.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience to interpret and advise effectively on policies, procedures and requirements regarding UC Davis graduate education, UC Davis Office of Graduate Studies, Graduate Council, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid Office and the University of California.
- Advanced knowledge on relevant policies and regulatory requirements, PMHNP professions education program curriculum and requirements, and maintains a broad range of expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research and demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement complex processes and systems improving the PMHNP program quality and efficiency and reducing cost.
- Strong analytical skills to compare data to draw conclusions, develop goals/plans for resolution and implementation. Skill to organize and analyze data systematically to report results and recommendations clearly.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff and students; respond to questions and concerns; and comprehend the specialized needs of students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Advanced organizational skills to work under frequent interruptions; to independently establish priorities, anticipate job requirements, organize work flow to work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well and with a great deal of flexibility in a fast-pace working environment; strong initiative and work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Must be sensitive to highly confidential information to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Demonstrated outstanding typing and computer skills. Experience to produce high quality work using software programs such as Microsoft Word and its advanced features, Excel, Access, Internet Browser, HTML editors, Acrobat, and Photoshop preferred.
- Excellent oral and written skills to communicate with faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Ability to function well and with a great deal of flexibility in a fast-pace working environment; strong initiative and work cooperatively in a team environment. Other duties as assigned, as the program grows and develops.
- General knowledge of the academic mission of the School of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advance degree or higher in an appropriate area of education (e.g., instructional/educational technology or curriculum design) or related discipline.
- Experience with program evaluation software such as Qualtrics.
- Knowledge of current copyright regulations and intellectual property concepts as they relate to the academic environment.
