Major/Essential Functions

The Associate Director will work within the Institute of Sustainability and Circular Economy (ISCE) and CASFER Engineering Research Center (https://www.casfer.us) under the direction of the Center Director and Managing Director, collaborating closely with CASFER institutional partners. This position will oversee comprehensive HR and financial, operational, and administrative functions, ensuring compliance with institutional and funding agency policies. The Associate Director will coordinate the HR operations of the center, overseeing multiple concurrent projects, lead the preparation of financial and HR reports, oversee budget tracking and resource allocation, and support the development and submission of large, complex funding proposals.

The role demands expert financial and administrative management skills to support CASFER's multi-institutional research activities, ensure smooth center operations, and enable strategic decision-making. The candidate will join a dynamic, multi-institutional leadership team dedicated to advancing CASFER and ISCE mission and impact.

Key Skills Required:

  • Expertise in human resources management.
  • Expertise in financial management including preparation of detailed reports, budgets, graphical financial analyses.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (advance user, pivot tables, complex spreadsheets), PowerBi (preferred), Cognos and Brassring.
  • Experience designing and managing interactive financial dashboards for real-time budget tracking and resource allocation
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee human resources operations, including recruitment, performance evaluations, merit review processes and salary planning.
  • Proficiency with procurement, reimbursement, and financial reconciliation processes, including purchasing cards, equipment orders, contracts, and vendor management
  • Experience with proposal development coordination, including timeline tracking, content management, compliance checklists, and submission of major multi-institutional proposals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced organizational and project management abilities, including experience with platforms like Asana, Microsoft Project, OneDrive, or similar tools
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with a strategic, solutions-oriented approach to operational challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across multi-institutional teams
  • Proven ability to meet critical deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment
  • High level of professionalism, adaptability, and attention to detail in financial and administrative operations

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master degree in business, accounting or human resources; 5 years of finance, accounting and or human resources experience; grant accounting and reporting experience.
