Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work closely with our systems engineering team to support the design, development, testing, and optimization of laser systems and components. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in mechanical design and system integration in the context of industrial laser applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical components and assemblies for industrial laser systems.
  • Support the development of prototype systems, including 3D modeling, CAD design, and simulations.
  • Assist in system integration, ensuring mechanical components are compatible with optical and electrical subsystems.
  • Participate in hands-on testing and validation of mechanical and laser systems, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, optical, software) to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Help with documentation, including design drawings, test reports, and procedures.
  • Research and suggest new technologies or materials to improve system performance, cost-efficiency, or manufacturability.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, including thermodynamics, materials science, and stress analysis.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience or coursework related to optics, lasers, or high-precision motion systems.
  • Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical testing equipment (e.g., strain gauges, thermocouples, laser measurement devices).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, CNC, and assembly.
