About the Job

Summary of Position:
The Research Assistant I (50% part time) will participate in research on the molecular mechanisms controlling germline development in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. This role will be essential for completing a study on the regulation of maternal mRNA clearance in C. elegans. The data to be obtained will complete a publication that will be critical to the lab's ability to complete its work and renew its funding

Essential and Other Functions:
The Research Assistant will conduct experiments as directed, which will include, genetic screens, genome editing, protein purification, and analyzing RNA-protein interactions. The Research Assistant will also support lab infrastructure, which includes making stock solutions, autoclaving, and glassware washing.

Genetic analysis (15%)
Genome editing (15%)
Protein purification (30%)
Analysis of RNA-protein interactions (30%)
Preparation of figures for publication and lab maintenance (10%)

Qualifications

All Required Qualifications must be documented in application materials

Required Qualifications:
A BA or BS degree in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years. At least two years' experience working with C. elegans. Experience with the polymerase chain reaction, molecular cloning, Sanger sequencing, whole-genome sequencing for mutant identification, protein expression in bacteria, and protein purification.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience analyzing RNA-protein interactions.

The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department-genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.00

Time Appointment Category: 50%-74% Appointment

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
