OVERVIEW
Design and develop new products for the Alpha Safety product line. Use engineering tools (CAD, engineering analysis, prototype fabrication techniques) to develop and test products from concept to production. Collect and prepare data for use in proposals. Design manufacturing process to meet cost, quality, safety, and schedule requirements. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for both in house and vendor processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform independent research, development, and engineering work with project responsibility to develop new product concepts and resolve problems with existing products.
- Computer-aided design and drafting using standard CAD software packages.
- Fabrication of engineering prototype hardware for testing and evaluation.
- Design and conduct developmental tests on new or existing products, document, analyze and assess project status, product testing and review of results; complete ISO requirements and documentation.
- Monitor project costs as design develops for both development and production and reports projections to Program Management.
- Research vendors and material sources from prototype to production.
- Review data collected from manufacturing and provide technical support to the manufacturing departments to implement new products or process changes, perform time studies, trouble shoot process issues, and develop solutions.
- Design manufacturing process to meet cost, quality, safety, and schedule requirements; provide technical support and troubleshooting for both in house and vendor processes.
- Provide technical support to product quality assessments, failure investigations, and root cause analysis
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 (two) to 5 (five+) years of experience with mechanical design in a hands-on product development, manufacturing, or test and evaluation environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering discipline.
- Proficiency with mechanical engineering design principles - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques (conventional machining, CNC a plus).
- Proficient with CAD (SolidWorks preferred), engineering drawing interpretation, and tolerance.
- Understanding of advanced mathematical concepts and applications.
- Ability to work independently with consultative direction toward program goals and objectives in a team environment.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to source parts and interact with vendors.
- Ability to work as a member of a fast-paced engineering design team.
- Experience with firearms, munitions, grenades, fuzes, aerosol systems, pyrotechnics, explosives, or human effects testing a plus.
- Experience with specialized engineering analysis (stress, thermal, fluid dynamic).
- Experience with design/fabrication of injection molded, machined, cast, and stamped parts.
- Experience with engineering instrumentation and data collection systems.
- Experience with military systems and/or contracts a plus
