DESCRIPTION

Parks & Landscape Technician I: $4,077-$4,956 monthly ($48,926-$59,469 annually)

Parks & Landscape Technician II: $4,505-$5,476 monthly ($54,058-$65,707 annually)

Are you passionate about creating vibrant, sustainable outdoor spaces that bring people together? The City of Corona is seeking a dedicated Park & Landscape Technician to join our Community Services Department.

In this role, you'll play a key part in maintaining and enhancing our parks, open spaces, and recreational areas - ensuring they remain safe, beautiful, and accessible for all residents and visitors to enjoy. This position performs a variety of landscape maintenance, janitorial and custodial duties while learning City policies and procedures and becoming familiar with the variety of departmental systems and practices. Knowledge & Skills:

Park & Landscape I/II:

  • Basic principles, safety regulations, techniques, tools and equipment used in park maintenance and landscape projects as they apply to assigned responsibilities

  • Computer applications related to the work

  • Geography and location of City parks

  • Codes, ordinances and regulations pertaining park maintenance and vehicle use.

Ability to:

Park & Landscape I/II:

Under close supervision, deal tactfully and courteously with the public; maintain good customer relations with consumers; demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community; complete and maintain accurate records and reports; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; safely and effectively operate City vehicles, tools and equipment used in park maintenance; maintain records and prepare clear and concise reports, records and other written documentation; communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Operate a computer terminal and/or computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database and other business software; operate other standard office equipment; able to work independently and as part of a team.

Education and Experience:

  • The Park & Landscape I is an entry level class in the series. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent, and/or general work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The Parks & Landscape II is the experienced/journey-level class in the series. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent, and one year experience in park maintenance working as a Park Services Worker l or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • A valid California class "C" Driver's License and; have the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
  • A valid California Class "A" or "B" Driver's License may be required dependent upon area of assignment.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The selection process will consist of a review and evaluation of all applicants' qualifications. Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in an oral interview. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization:

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 922 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
