ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University.
ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the
ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments.
ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students.
ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.
This position reports to the Director of Enterprise Information Systems (
EIS) and is located within the university's Information Technology and Computing Services (
ITCS) department.
EIS is responsible for providing enterprise administrative systems that enhance the experience for the university community as well as creating an administrative environment that is seamless and secure, meets the needs of the university, and is delivered in a way that builds trust and exceeds user expectations. Supported enterprise services include data integrations, customizations, process improvements, and access management for the university's
CRM,
ERP and administrative systems, university's portal, document imaging solution, eForms and eSignature signature solutions, and the university website. Responsibilities include development, support, operation, governance, and quality assurance for these systems and services. |
Job Duties |
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Product Owner of ECU's Salesforce environment. The Product Owner plays a critical role in articulating and carrying out the university's vision for the Salesforce platform. This position collaborates frequently with campus stakeholders to identify additional use for licensed Salesforce products to maximize value and continuously improve stakeholder experience. The Product Owner is responsible for prioritizing backlog requests and supervising the Salesforce Administrator position.
STRATEGY AND VISION: Collaborate with stakeholders and campus users to articulate the university's vision for Salesforce. Maintain a multi-year product roadmap to guide the development and enhancement of the Salesforce platform. Manage and prioritize a request backlog to ensure the system is continuously improving and delivering value to the university.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE: Responsible for understanding the details and capabilities of licensed Salesforce products and how these align with the needs of the university. Stay informed on vendor product roadmaps and review release notes to evaluate the impact updates may have on existing capabilities. Stay abreast of new functionality to ensure the university is maximizing its use of licensed products.
STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION: Work closely with campus stakeholders to gather and understand their requirements, transforming these into clear and actionable technical specifications. Act as a voice of the end-user ensuring delivered solutions meet or exceed business needs.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT: Plan and oversee Salesforce projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet or exceed the business need. Inform and participate in business readiness, understand the impact of change, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement the approach to manage adoption and mitigate resistance.
SUPERVISION AND PERSONNEL ACTIVITIES: Responsible for the oversight and supervision of technical staff, creating performance goals and development plans, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring progress on assigned tasks, and making personnel decisions. Must evaluate and assess the skill levels of staff and determine training needs based on input from the team members. Identify cost-effective training opportunities. Conduct recruitment and hiring activities, making sure vacant positions are filled in a timely manner with the most qualified candidates. Makes final decisions on recruitment. Recommend the selection, promotion, reclassification, disciplinary action, and other personnel actions for team.
DOCUMENTATION: Maintain comprehensive documentation of product features, user stories, and project progress.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Stay abreast of new Salesforce technology and inspire the campus to do the same. Stay up to date with new technologies, especially those in the Salesforce
CRM space. Participate in training opportunities by attending classes and by taking self-study type training to improve skills and to increase professional awareness. Suggest ways to improve training opportunities that are cost effective. Assist by teaching or providing one-on-one assistance to others as needed. Be a mentor to team members, when appropriate.
OTHER DUTIES: Serve on university committees, to include the
CRM Steering Committee, and perform functions as needed outside of normal job duties. Duties may include but are not limited to training team members or functional users, testing applications, and assisting with time-sensitive tasks
This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (
FWA) under the
ECU
FWA Policy.
The standard work schedule for this position will need to be adjusted to meet the position requirements, which include and are not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations.
This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the
ECU main campus. "Reasonable commuting distance" is defined as a location that does not exceed a distance that can be safely traveled in two hours by automobile under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads to employee's assigned duty station in Greenville, NC.

Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- A 4-year technology related degree with an emphasis on Computer Science.
- Experience as a product owner or similar role for an enterprise-wide system; experience with Salesforce Education Cloud or Student Success Hub is preferred.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce's capabilities.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders to document user requirements; experience writing requirements as Epics, Features, and User Stories is preferred.
- Keen ability to quickly connect business requirements with the functional capabilities of the application.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a broad base of customers on a technical and non-technical level.
- Experience managing or leading enterprise-wide projects.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Experience supervising technical staff, creating performance goals and development plans, conducting performance evaluations.
- Ability to work as an independent, productive, responsive, self-motivated member of a team in high pressure situations.
