Job Title: Grinder

Department: Grinding

Location: High Bridge, NJ

Summary

The Grinder is responsible for performing a series of manual and machine-based grinding operations to shape and finish products made from various alloys. This role involves operating grinding tools and equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining product traceability, ensuring quality standards are met, and transferring completed items to the next stage of production. A strong attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grinders and related equipment safely, following all company safety protocols and wearing required PPE at all times.
  • Grind and polish materials according to job router specifications, using angle, vertical, belt, and flat wheel grinders as needed.
  • Load and unload materials carefully at grind stations to prevent product damage.
  • Inspect materials for defects, confirm dimensions when applicable, and take corrective actions to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Maintain product identification and traceability before, during, and after grinding operations.
  • Verify that the shop router matches the product material and is signed off by the prior department before starting work.
  • Accurately read a tape measure and solve basic practical problems on the floor.
  • Start up and shut down machines daily; clean dust collectors and perform basic equipment upkeep.
  • Communicate job progress and shift updates to incoming personnel.
  • Assist and coordinate with other departments to complete work orders.
  • Guide and instruct helpers or team members assisting in grinding tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure clear egress paths.
  • Perform daily housekeeping before and after each shift to support safety and efficiency.



Qualifications

  • Ability to read and follow written instructions such as job routers and safety guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools and grinding equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a production environment with exposure to dust, noise, and physical activity.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.



Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • One year of related training or work experience may substitute for formal education.
