Overview

Location: Onsite and remote work available

Hours: Monday-Friday, standard business hours

The Technical Lab Application Analyst works in partnership with customers, vendors, and IT teams to complete workflow analysis and determine application and system capabilities and design. Advises on system design, policies, technical requirements, and technical issues and concerns. Responsible for application support, developing and executing test plans, and contributing to training.

This position is responsible for security requirement reviews, environment setup and design to meet best practices. This includes setting up and delivering Active Directory integrations, Single Sign On integrations, server configurations, printer configurations, label design, Citrix, Web delivery configurations, application and instrument interface systems, operating system configurations, automation scripting, implementation, maintenance, optimization, disaster recovery plans, failover plans, report writing and auditing support of assigned applications.

This position is also responsible for system migrations, application upgrades, project implementations, server replacements, application system replacements and in some cases application end of life archiving and conversions.

This position works independently or with vendors to implement and develop system changes and customizations as needed to meet UPH system requirements and updates.

This position proactively applies troubleshooting and critical thinking skills to fulfill customer needs. Finally, the role is responsible for effective and timely communications to team members and customers alike on status of their assigned work.

Responsibilities

Issue Resolution

  • Independently supports, designs, and resolves complex issues with IT internal infrastructure, networking, interfaces and data automation, security setups, automation scripting, computer OS, various clinical hardware systems, SSO, browsers and Citrix systems in adherence with service expectations and change management policies.
  • Works with vendors and other IT teams to implement and maintain interfaces, data automation processes, server backup processes, and application automation. Frequently works with other IT teams, regional operations, and Biomed to replace, configure, add new, integrate, test, and implement various hardware and software systems.
  • Takes ownership of escalated customer issues and works with multiple parties and/or vendor to help resolve issue.
  • Debugs system automation, scripting, patches and provides resolutions.
  • Configures, tests, documents, and implements workstations, printers, software, and server OS changes.
  • Follows and may lead the enhancement process and Change Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Debugs server, Citrix, AD, Group Policy, software programming, networking, database, and local workstation issues.
  • Acts as a UPH technical resource for vendors, management, hospital staff and other internal IT teams for support and implementation issues.
  • Works to provide technical solutions for client needs and workflows.
  • Provides day and after hours on-call coverage as scheduled. May assume additional on-call responsibilities as directed by Manager.

Operational Support and Improvement

  • Researches and communicates options to support decision-making discussions to determine strategy for implementation of tools and systems.
  • Use lab operational experience to advocates for and acts as an agent of progressive change within the organization and proactively identifies opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Researches solutions to improve service such as processes, standards and/or products.
  • Drives decision-making or technical solution-oriented discussions.
  • Documents system versions, upgrade plans, and application information.
  • Works across IT, management, and regional lab and other healthcare operations teams to provide and develop application setups and best practices.
  • Maintains and replaces IT infrastructure, servers, and hardware as needed.
  • Reviews, researches, upgrades, and maintains systems to be compliant to regulatory requirements including HIPAA, DNV, OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and Joint Commission.
  • Automates system and background tasks.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation.
  • Communicates necessary information to the required teams.
  • Works with other IT teams to advise on technical setups and requirements needed.
  • Works independently or across teams to implement and maintain application backup setups.
  • Updates, migrates, and maintains some database systems.
  • Archives legacy systems.
  • Assists regional resources with medical device setups and configurations within systems and non-biomed supported devices.
  • Demonstrates adherence to application standards and guidelines. Assists with meeting maintenance program requirements and maintains related certifications.
  • Demonstrates ability to complete application build for assigned application(s).
  • Mentors staff with the completion of documented release processes.
  • Reviews release notes, configures, and tests application changes.
  • Understands and contributes to improvement of testing processes.
  • Ensures team members follow the test scripts and processes.

Project Management

  • Leads and coordinates projects as assigned, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Leads moderately complex projects independently or as a part of a larger project team.
  • Develops project plans and tracks progress, escalating as necessary when project issues arise, or deadlines are challenged.
  • Acts as a technical resource for non-technical project team members.
  • Defines and executes on technical and operational cutover tasks and contributes to solutions for any resulting issues.

Compliance and Security

  • Understands HIPAA standards, regulatory, and security requirements pertaining to database, server, and/or application management.
  • Follows appropriate security processes for supported applications.
  • Works frequently with legal, security, compliance, biomed, hospital management/staff and vendors to maintain and assure regulatory compliance is maintained for medical treatment, monitoring and delivery systems.
  • Audits, implements, and maintains application setup and security best practices.
  • Establishes security compliant delivery setups, IIS, network shares, AD groups, data automation, SSL certs, updates application cipher codes, MS Exchange setups, Firewall and NetScaler delivery setups for new systems.
  • Reviews applications and project requests for compliance issues.

Qualifications
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or similar degree
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a clinical lab operations function
  • 2 years' experience providing lab technology support and maintenance
  • Knowledge of health care organization information systems processes
