Pay Range

$103,500 - $157,464 Annually

$103,500 - $131,256 Annually for the TSS.1 level

$124,200 - $157,464 Annually for the TSS.2 level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Quality Assurance Engineer. You will contribute to the oversight and management of Strategic Deterrence quality assurance programs, and the design and deployment of plans and procedures to provide assurance that Strategic Deterrence activities are performed in compliance with Directorate and LLNL/LLNS policies, federal, state, and local laws and regulations associated with quality assurance programs. Your work will primarily have you performing direct observations, reviewing documentation, conducting assessments, providing briefings, and writing documents and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with facility and programmatic customers as well as other Laboratory support organizations.

This position will support Strategic Deterrence nuclear and non-nuclear facilities and is based in Livermore, California. Interactions will include facility management, program management, Strategic Deterrence management, and external regulators such as U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board representatives. This position is in the Quality Assurance group in the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options, may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role, you will

  • Conduct technical reviews, inspections, and assessments of facility and programmatic activities at Strategic Deterrence facilities in accordance with quality assurance standards and requirements.
  • Perform audits and assessments in a variety of complex conditions and environments, such as nuclear facility radioactive materials areas and other Strategic Deterrence facilities.
  • Evaluate supplier quality through the performance of reviews, audits, and assessments.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance documents and procedures.
  • Network with other quality assurance professionals within LLNL organizations and the DOE Complex to better understand how to effectively implement DOE quality assurance requirements.
  • Assist with the development of new systems and processes focused on continuous improvement to ensure quality requirements are effectively implemented and ideal behaviors in the workplace are enabled.
  • Travel to off-site locations, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the TSS.2 level

  • Serve as a quality assurance technical contact that provides quality assurance engineer support services to Strategic Deterrence facility and programmatic organizations to assure implementation of LLNL quality assurance program requirements in nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
  • Use independent judgment to develop approaches to solutions.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U. S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical/science discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Sufficient written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate and explain technical information in a team environment.
  • Experience in creating clear, concise, and organized documentation, including procedures, test plans, and reports.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and use fundamental knowledge to solve problems while adhering to defined practices and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate processes, identify areas for improvement, and recommend practical solutions to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Basic understanding of quality assurance principles, methodologies, and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks).
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities.
  • Ability to travel .

Additional qualifications at the TSS.2 level

  • Experience participating in internal or independent assessments and audits of organizations, operations, and facilities for assuring the effective and compliant implementation of quality programs and/or formal quality management systems (i.e. ISO 9001, NQA-1).
  • Experience developing and implementing new processes and procedures.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Familiarity with Department of Energy Orders.
  • Experience developing program documents to comply with formal quality management systems (i.e., ISO 9001, NQA-1).
  • Experience working with industrial codes and standards (i.e., ASME, ASTM, AWS).
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
