Position Summary
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus. This position has the opportunity for up to 40% remote work, consistent with System Office policy. WCU employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Web Services Unit supports access to the library's physical and electronic resources. The mission of the Web Services Unit is to help manage access and content for the library's web presence. The Web Services Unit also supports user experience and usability studies. The Web Services unit is also responsible for the maintenance, site management, and content presentation assistance needed to help library staff deliver quality information to users via the library's website.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Library User Experience Web Developer in carrying out the many responsibilities of the Web Services Unit in making sure that all web presence needs for library operations are kept working and to help create a cohesive and effective web presence. The employee will provide a variety of support responsibilities for computer troubleshooting, user applications software in the library, and web-based applications on the library's homepage. The employee in this position will be expected to perform a variety of tasks daily and as needed, to provide ongoing support, maintenance, and future development of the equipment, software, systems, networks, and the library's website.

The employee must use professional judgment to determine the best way in which to resolve problems and make changes to web pages in a timely fashion. The employee assists in the use of the central computing facilities, microcomputer platforms (Macintosh, DOS, Windows 10/11), networks (Windows Server, Active Directory), the access and use of wide area network resources (Internet, III, other library databases.) helping library staff apply a wide variety of software packages used in their work (MS Office, Acrobat, telnet, web browsers, etc.), web authoring tools (Visual Studio Code, NotePad ++), image creation software (Fireworks/Photoshop, Gimp), and practice good file management and site management. The employee might be called on to provide individual or group training sessions in any of these areas.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Demonstrated ability to: Listen effectively; respond clearly and directly; use appropriate vocabulary with users who may not be familiar with that technology in clarifying situations. Maintain positive working relationships by collaborating and working cooperatively with others. Organize and manage details effectively through project management. Be self-motivated to learn new skills and adapt to changing skill requirements, have a general knowledge and experience with: HTML, Javascript, CSS, Relational Databases, SQL, mySQL, PHP, APIs, a variety of frameworks, and web publishing software; image creation software (such as Fireworks/Photoshop, Gimp); analytical procedures and systems analysis. A variety of office hardware and computer software (such as email, word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and web browsers) and operating systems (Windows 10/11).
Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in an Information Technology field and one year in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in an Information Technology area. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.
