Description

Clark Nexsen is seeking an Energy Modeler who is passionate about high performance buildings to join our building performance and sustainability team. Our team collaborates with architects and engineers to design high performance buildings and achieve net zero carbon solutions. We are driven to make the world a better place through our work. The Energy Modeler will be responsible for modeling and analyzing building energy use to inform design decisions and development of energy conservation strategies. This work is done in coordination with our building design and energy consulting teams. This position works across building types and market sectors, to include federal/state/local government, education (higher education and K-12 schools), and commercial facilities.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Creating building energy models to quantify annual energy consumption and report results in terms of energy, cost, and emissions metrics.
  • Collaborating with architects & engineers to help projects achieve high performance outcomes
  • Collaborating with our energy consulting team to analyze and develop energy conservation strategies for decarbonization, energy retrofits, and related programs.
  • Preparing graphics and authoring reports to communicate the results of analyses and studies.
  • Presenting results to project teams and clients in formal and informal settings.
  • Reporting project performance to the firm's AIA 2030 and MEP 2040 commitments.
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from senior engineers, project managers, managing principals, and operations directors.


Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Whole-building energy modeling, ranging from simple box to detailed code compliance models.
  • Life cycle cost analyses to inform high performance building design strategies or energy conservation measures.
  • Participation in project team work sessions and client charrettes to identify high performance building strategies in support of design efforts.
  • Authoring code compliance documentation for energy, emissions, and/or water performance.
  • Authoring reports and presentations to relay performance outcomes and alternatives, for internal and external audiences.
  • Authoring documentation for compliance with third party sustainability or energy rating systems, including LEED, Green Globes, Energy Star, and related measures.


Education, Technology, and Experience



  • Undergraduate and/or Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, or building physics-related field.
  • Building energy modeling experience using IES VE, Trane Trace, EnergyPlus, eQuest, Designbuilder, or equivalent software is required.
  • Building energy modeling and simulation certifications such as ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional are strongly encouraged.
  • Sustainability certifications such as LEED Accredited Professional, Well Accredited Professional, and/or Green Globes Professional are desirable.
  • Building architecture or engineering design experience is desirable.

  • Ability to read and understand building construction documents.
  • Ability to think "outside of the box" to simulate systems and processes within the limitations of software tools and project schedules.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Have a can-do attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services.
  • Be dedicated to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole.


Workplace Flexibility

We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set established between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the work-life balance that is desired by all, while providing consistent opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and mentorship.

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
