OVERVIEW The candidate will be responsible for all the tasks related to the conceptual, preliminary, and final 3D design of small to medium, complex Plastic Injection Molds. The position requires a technical understanding of plastic part and mold design practices, injection molding process, and molding equipment. The successful candidate will be able to take 3D models of plastic parts and design a mold from start to finish including 3D models and dimensions/tolerance drawings. Additional experience with heating and cooling methods for molding equipment is also required. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conceptualization and development of new product IP and improvements to existing product lines.
- 3D CAD design of parts and products.
- Creation of technical drawings for mold tooling fabrication, QA inspection, outsourced components, fixture and jig fabrication, assembly/exploded diagrams, and Government RFP's/Tenders.
- Prototyping of new parts and products utilizing 3D printers, CNCs, milling machines, lathes, and various hand tools and techniques.
- Analysis of part and/or product design for mechanical strength and durability as well as moldability and manufacturability utilizing FEA and MoldFlow software.
- Product testing and evaluation, utilizing both internal testing procedures and coordination with 3rd party testing agencies as required.
- Coordination with various departments such as Quality, Manufacturing, Molding, Supply Chain, Inventory, Shipping and Management to ensure smooth product releases, root cause analysis when issues arise assisting with their resolutions, and manufacturing support as issues arise during production.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Entry level. 1 year Design Engineering experience and/or relevant internship.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering.
- Bachelors degree in related Engineering discipline acceptable with 3+ years of Design Engineering experience.
- Experience with 3D part modelling (CAD), preferably Solidworks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- General knowledge in the use of hand tools and shop operations
- Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and documentation.
- Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
- Ability to communicate professionally.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Familiarity with various prototyping methods and their applications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, particularly injection molding, and design for manufacturability.
- Ability to develop and maintain several projects simultaneously and stay on schedule.
- Problem solving and RCCM analysis
- Familiarity with measuring tools and gauges.
- Familiarity with test equipment and testing protocols.
