ASSOCIATE GAS SERVICE COORDINATOR

Summary:

Meets with builders, developers, and customers to coordinate actions required to provide gas service; initiates and develops opportunities for gas sales, and represents the Company on gas service, billing, and other customer account issues.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:




  • Meet with builders, developers and customers or their representatives to coordinate actions required to provide gas service





  • Initiate and develop opportunities for gas sales or provide leads for successful market-driven activities to educate and promote the use of appropriate gas end-use technologies to targeted customers.





  • Represent the company in negotiations related to service extension issues, customer billing, and account and deposit requirements. Resolves customer concerns and handles all responsibilities in a professional manner.





  • Support community and civic organizations through active participation on boards and committees, project coordination and fund-raising events. Develop relationship with community and civic leaders so that Houston Gas is regarded as a partner





  • Get customer and construction response to service provided and initiates action based on feedback





  • Determines customer gas loads and metering requirements. Prepares construction sketches, layouts and drawings of existing and proposed distribution facilities and coordinates activities with other personnel from Engineering & Operations.





  • Prepare work orders, either on Customer Information System or SAP.





  • Prepare estimates of cost for material and labor to complete projects with commercial and residential development customers; coordinates work orders and estimates of cost





  • Verifies equipment type, size, and location; review facilities for compliance with the city and county ordinances and Company standards; stakes the location of proposed facilities for construction forces where appropriate.





  • Support project construction by communicating with customers, construction forces, other utility (phone, electric, water) personnel, certain governmental entities, and others. Monitors construction progress and serves as liaison between customer and Houston Gas departments to ensure timely completion of work.





  • Prepare client presentations and departmental reports accessing computer systems





  • Identifies project requirements and completes the designs and work orders for distribution capital programs.





  • Responsible for completing own work to meet set schedules.





  • Collaborates with others to help resolve issues.





  • Works under general supervision.





Education:

Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge of English, grammar, and basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculation of fractions and/or percentages)

Experience:

Typically requires a minimum of three (3) years natural gas distribution experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities & Personal Characteristics (KSLAPs):

* Knowledge of a particular field of specialization achieved through

prior study or previous experience




  • Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communication skills.





  • Able to perform detailed, complex technical work daily including managing multiple projects simultaneously





  • Able to apply knowledge of gas systems and equipment operation, regulations, and standards





  • Able to use mainframe and PC systems to complete work orders, order materials and prepare reports





  • Able to use mathematics to perform engineering calculations to determine load size, pipe sizing, and cost estimates





  • Able to develop, analyze, interpret, and communicate technical information from drawings, reports, and documents





  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Company line extension and service policies





  • Able to demonstrate courtesy, tact, diplomacy, good judgment, and professional conduct when communicating in person, by telephone or email





  • Able to provide a valid state driver's license and to present and maintain a safe driving record.





Physical Requirements:




  • Able to operate office machines including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, desktop/laptop, mobile phone, etc.





  • Able to walk, kneel, squat, climb and use tools to perform field inspections





Working Conditions:




  • Able to perform work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions





  • Able to work with moderate daily pressure to meet deadlines





  • Able to work overtime, as needed or required, to meet established deadlines





  • Able to travel as needed
