ECSU Retirees Association, etc.), Advancement operates in a philanthropic environment that is able to respond to unique opportunities and support the University's progress toward its aspirations. We work to advance the goal of making Elizabeth City State University recognized as North Carolina's leading regional university as measured by its impact on the lives of people of northeastern North Carolina.

Description of Work |
The Major Gift Officer & External Relations Liaison is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors and represents Elizabeth City State University to the community at large through the development and maintenance of relationships with key community groups, external agencies and/or other interested parties. The position is responsible for collaborating with key constituents of the university including the executive leadership team, faculty, staff, leadership boards, alumni and friends as directed by the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement to implement strategies to secure philanthropic contributions from top prospects college-wide. The mission of the major gift officer & External Relations Liaison is the creation of a vibrant culture of philanthropy at Elizabeth City State University resulting in increased levels of major gifts and increased support and engagement and with the surrounding community. |
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with public speaking skills preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Demonstrate the ability to motivate volunteers.
Possess the ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Computer literacy, particularly in word processing and using databases, is required.
Possess the ability to work effectively in a changing organizational environment with a strong commitment to team-based management and quality of service.
Possess the ability and willingness to work outside normal business hours.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently, solve problems, handle confidential information, and navigate sensitive situations; communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents; and willingness to travel.
Possess a proven record of successful face-to-face solicitations; organizational and planning skills; experience working productively with alumni, members of the community, faculty, staff and board leadership.
Possess experience in managing and implementing fundraising projects and proposals and annual giving campaigns and events. |
Minimum Training and Experience |
A Bachelor's degree with two or more years of successful fund raising experience, preferably in higher education with mastery of basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising pertaining to identification, cultivation, closure and stewardship of individual prospects or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
