About the Job

Position Description:

The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III men's soccer program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students' safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, UMAC and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals.

The University of Minnesota Morris Cougars compete in the NCAA Division III and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with 19 sports for men and women. One in four UMN Morris students is a varsity athlete.

Cougar Soccer has a long, rich history of success within the Upper Midwest Conference.

This position will also carry the additional responsibility of head women's tennis coach.

This is a 75%, 10-month, annually renewable coaching appointment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching soccer is required.
  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
  • Appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III.
  • Strong program management skills.
  • The ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes
  • A demonstrated commitment to students' athletic and academic success.
  • The demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse, inclusive, successful team with sensitivity to individuals of all cultural backgrounds, and the capacity to be a visible and engaging leader.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and value of a public liberal arts college, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities needed to advance Cougar men's soccer, the athletic programs, and the University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree, college coaching experience and/or participation at the collegiate level.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30,110 - $32,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%, 10-month appointment
