About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking a full-time, regular status (with benefits) Ecological Restoration Technician with particular focus on Invasive Plant Species Control to work in our Ecological Restoration Group. This position requires occasional travel in order to complete restoration projects throughout the Northeast. Must have a strong interest in invasive plant management, ability to work in the field the majority of the time, and be able to work in a team. Primary work will include herbicide application for invasive plant management and other restoration tasks (wetland mitigation plant installation, assistance with trail construction and maintenance, and ecological assessments).

What you will accomplish

  • Work in a team setting to complete restoration projects including invasive plant management using herbicides.
  • Effectively communicate with other project team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Implement and complete tasks and responsibilities delegated by Field Supervisors. (Potentially lead field crews depending on experience)
  • Take positive action and accountability for assigned work.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • BA degree in relative areas of Environmental Science, wetland science, etc. (helpful).
  • At least two (2) month of relevant work experience in a forestry/ecological restoration/landscaping/construction capacity.
  • Previous herbicide application experience (required).
  • MA Certified Pesticide Applicators license (desired).
  • Previous stormwater monitoring experience (optional).
  • Previous erosion control experience is (optional).
  • OSHA 10 or 40 hour certification (desired).
  • Experience at working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment (required).
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Flexible during times of change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively execute tasks is crucial.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

An Ecological Restoration Technician in this Amherst, MA- based position can expect the following pay range: $19.57/hour to $25.24/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
