Compensation

Salary Range: $21.87 - $31.84 / hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:

Helps coordinate and is responsible for facilitating and implementing process and systems for monitoring materials and inventory control for Perioperative Services. Responsibilities include management of materials acquisition, receiving, and distribution, utilizing the perioperative automated clinical information/management system and the material management automated information system, and coordination of end of year inventory for Perioperative Services. Serves as a liaison between Materials Management, Sterile Processing Department, and Perioperative Services. Insures effective and efficient management of supplies, instruments, and equipment. To facilitate a smooth transition between surgical procedures and assist nursing staff in the maintenance of a clean environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    Provides assistance and takes direction from the physicians and nursing staff within the limits of job description and competencies.
  1. Daily Tasks - Performs daily tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the unit.
  2. Documentation - Documents activities in an accurate and timely manner and to comply with regulations / policies.
  3. Continuously monitors implemented processes to insure that benefits have been achieved.
  4. Manages all aspects of Perioperative Services' inventory including but not limited to ordering, stock and non-stock items, receiving, and distribution to appropriate areas.
  5. Procures selected surgical and medical supplies, implants, small equipment and linen necessary to support the needs of the department and physicians. Assists with implant logs and recalls.
  6. Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the Meditech Perpetual Inventory.
  7. Works with the Materials Management Department to insure that supplies including, but not limited to product substitution, emergency orders, and absence of product outages on critical supplies are available.
  8. Assesses the need for new supplies or capital equipment through excellent negotiation and communication skills with vendors and surgical staff to evaluate, select, acquire, and educate on new products and equipment.
  9. Collaborates with Perioperative Management and Materials Management staff to facilitate capital acquisitions.
  10. Maintains effective communication with Perioperative Services personnel and physicians, insuring availability of supply, instruments, or equipment needs based on scheduled surgical procedures and notifies Perioperative Services personnel and physicians of out of stock supplies or equipment out for repair. Supplies are maintained in an organized manner with the appropriate par levels.
  11. Initiates and coordinates repair or replacement of malfunctioning equipment with Clinical Engineering, or other appropriate repair service companies and verifies work repairs have been completed in a satisfactory manner.
  12. Manages equipment, material and supplies within budget and identifies root causes of variances and develops action plans for improvement.
  13. Manages inventory levels to maximize inventory turn while maintaining adequate stock.
  14. Facilitates processes of maintaining and updating fixed assets of the Perioperative Services Department and collaborates with appropriate departments to insure accurate records of fixed assets.
  15. Maintains current knowledge of material management issues and participates in continuing education.
  16. Cleans the O.R. between cases.
  17. Assist with patient transport, lifting, positioning under the direction of the RN or Physician.
  18. Processes instrumentation per policy.
  19. Prioritizes needs of Surgical Services; peri-op care tech vs. materials management.
  20. Responsible to take call.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year prior work experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Previous health care experience
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course
  • Bilingual in Spanish
