Position Purpose
Under minimal supervision, the Tank Inspector/ Sample Processor supports two areas. The priority is tank inspection and treatment. This requires regularly evaluating, treating, and reporting on the overall quality of wine in storage tanks. This role is critical to protecting wine quality. The second priority is to the sampling department, which requires collecting wine samples and distributing them appropriately.
Functional Responsibility
Essential Duties
- Visually inspects the wine surface and tank top surroundings of each tank storing wine
- Treats all accessible tanks with liquid SO2 regardless of headspace
- Treats tanks that are not accessible for liquid SO2 with CO2 (Dry Ice) regardless of the headspace
- Notes any obvious off-aromas when inspecting wine surface and reports it to internal customers
- Accurately pulls samples from tanks using zone samplers, valves, etc.
- Monitors inventory of sampling/shipping supplies
- Pulls taste samples for internal and external customers
- Maintains cleanliness within the sampling department and cleanliness of all equipment used in the inspection and treatment process
- Generates daily reports as necessary
- Maintains a strong customer service relationship with internal customers

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- One year general winery experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organization skills, reading, writing and communication skills
- Works well independently and in a team environment
- Must be able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficient in desktop applications (Microsoft Office preferred)
- Knowledge of Winemaking and Cellar is preferred
- Must be able to fix equipment like zone samplers, thermometer gauges, and bikes
Certificates and Licenses
- Forklift certification preferred
Working Conditions
- Winery environment
- Most of the time is spent outdoors in the elements
- Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Must be able to pass fit test and perform work while wearing respirators
- May be required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
- Work in close quarters or confined spaces
- Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
- Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
- Work at protected heights of 50'
- Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment

The pay range for this position is $16.50 to $25.70. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
