Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Vulnerability and Threat Analyst to join our team! The Vulnerability and Threat Analyst will perform and report on security assessments. This includes conducting simulated attacks to test the security posture of our systems, optimizing our vulnerability scanning related system and processes, and working with various teams to address identified risks. This role requires a proactive individual with strong cybersecurity principals that will be responsible for planning and executing purple team exercises, performing vulnerability assessments and collaborating with various teams to enhance our security posture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests on systems, networks, and applications to validate the effectiveness of the existing security controls, prioritize remediation, and provide actionable insights.
  • Identify, validate, and analyze security vulnerabilities using various tools and techniques. Collaborate with various technology, application, and business teams to remediate identified vulnerabilities.
  • Prepare audit reports that identify technical and procedural findings and provide recommended remediation strategies/solutions.
  • Monitor, track, and validate vulnerability remediation efforts and provide regular reporting, metrics, and risk analysis to management and Information Security Committee.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to vulnerability management processes and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security policies, standards, and guidelines.


To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years of experience in information security or related field.


The following would be a plus:



  • Ability to analyze business applications to determine and communicate risk to stakeholders in an understandable and consultative manner.
  • Strong knowledge of common vulnerabilities and exposure (CVE) databases and vulnerability scoring systems (e.g., CVSS).
  • Proficiency with vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys, OpenVAS) and penetration testing frameworks (e.g., Metasploit).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation of security tasks.
  • Understanding of network and security architecture, including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g. application of defense-in-depth).
  • Knowledge of application weaknesses (CWE), secure web development standards (e.g. OWASP), and application specific vulnerabilities.
  • Relevant certifications such as CEH, OSCP, CISSP, or similar are a plus.
  • Experience with the creation and maintenance of Cybersecurity related metrics.
