Consumers Credit Union (CCU) is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to join the Business Intelligence team! This is an exciting new opportunity for a data steward who is detail oriented, collaborative, ethics and policy minded and enjoys working with data and technology.

Schedule/Location:



  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule where some of your work week will be onsite at our modern and amenities driven Lake Forest office location and the rest will be spent working remotely.
  • Local Northern IL/Southeast WI candidates only!


As a Data Governance Specialist (sometimes called AI data steward), you will play a critical role in ensuring that data used for AI and machine learning is accurate, ethical, and compliant with regulations. You'll bridge the gap between data engineering, data science, and other data teams to maintain high-quality datasets for AI applications.

Main duties and responsibilities:



  • Use tools to monitor and improve data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Define and enforce data validation and cleaning procedures. Work with team members and vendors to ensure the data is structured correctly so it can be used as intended (AI, dashboards ,etc.)
  • Ensure datasets comply with industry regulations (e.g., General Data Protection Requirements, California Consumer Privacy Act). Manage data to ensure compliance with sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII) policies.
  • Assess datasets for potential biases that could impact AI model fairness. Implement strategies to mitigate biases in data collection and labeling.
  • Maintain detailed metadata (data lineage, source tracking, etc.). Document data transformations and decision-making processes.
  • Work with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to align AI initiatives with ethical and business goals. Educate internal teams on data stewardship best practices.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems or related
  • 3+ years' experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or related preferred
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP); Microsoft AI-900 (AI Fundamentals) preferred
  • Foundational understanding of AI
  • Basic technical knowledge. Experience with data visualization tools, programming languages, SQL, and Microsoft applications desired.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with cross-functional colleagues and vendors
  • High problem-solving abilities, self-starter, and drive for willingness to learn


Compensation & Benefits:

Budgeted amount for annual salary is: $77,000 annually + annual bonus opportunity
