Position Summary:

The Contractor, Scientist, Biomaterials - TMS shall work on advancing the field of medical aesthetics and biologics through innovative biomaterials development. Working under general supervision, the role focuses on the creation of next-generation biomaterials and localized delivery systems for biologics. The responsibilities span the science and engineering of polymers including their design, synthesis, modification, fabrication, and characterization, as well as prototype formulation (injectable hydrogels, particles, implants) and process development.

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

Role Scientific Execution Oversight: 95%

* Lead and actively participate in planning experimental studies aimed at developing novel biomaterials and biologics.

* Conduct experimental studies related to the synthesis, formulation, fabrication, and characterization of advanced biomaterials and prototypes.

* Analyze and interpret experimental data to derive conclusions and propose actionable technical recommendations to propel project progress.

* Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams to achieve shared project goals through joint experimental studies.

Role Scientific Communication Oversight: 5%

* Engage in and present at project team meetings to discuss project activities, review completed tasks, and assess technical progress.

* Contribute to the writing of technical reports, memoranda, and documents for both internal and external dissemination.

Minimum Requirements:

* M.S. or B.S. degree in Biomaterials Science, Biomedical engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.

* 3+ (M.S.) or 6+ (B.S.) years of relevant experience, including industrial experience.

* Preferred experience with biomaterials and/or biologics related to medical device and drug delivery systems.

* Skilled in presenting facts and recommendations both orally and in writing.

Technical

* Possess technical competence and expertise in Biomaterials Science (e.g., polymer synthesis, cross-linked/modified polymers, hydrogels, biomaterial-tissue interfaces, polymer fabrication processes, drug delivery systems)

* Possess technical competence and expertise in biologics

* Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills and good communication skills, both oral and written

* Working knowledge of general laboratory techniques and procedures including EHS practice

* Ability to accurately perform detail-oriented work.

* Ability to prioritize and manage concurrent tasks

* Ability to maintain accuracy, consistency and quality of documentation while adhering to company deadlines

* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, documentation, and procedures

* Ability to take initiative and make decisions within own work content

* Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

* Ability to learn various software programs.

What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:

a. Education and Experience: M.S. in Biomaterials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. 2+ (M.S.) years of applicable experience including industrial experience is preferred.

b. Key expertise: Polymer synthesis, purification, and modifications including bio-conjugation; formulation.

c. Analytical skills: NMR, HPLC, SEC-MALS, mechanical testing.

d. Work experience involving biomaterials for medical device and/or drug delivery systems is preferred.
