Position Summary

The Pathways Coach is a dynamic change agent who develops positive and empowering relationships with students, designs, facilitates and promotes engaging programming, and provides daily student support to an MCC Co/Lab - each one a magnetic hub for student success. The Pathways Coach plays an integral part in coordinating and delivering a dynamic Pathways-focused work-based learning program. Through these endeavors, the Pathways Coach has significant responsibility for sustaining the College's focus on student learning, developing essential employability skills, and achievement.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Partner with Career Services, Academic Affairs, and faculty to develop and support a comprehensive and dynamic work-based learning program in alignment with Pathways. This includes assisting with the creation, promotion, and oversight of a variety of work-based learning opportunities, such as employer visits and tours, internships, job shadowing, and apprenticeships by Pathway
  • Embed functions of Career Services and Pathways into the Co/Labs' operations
  • Assist students in gaining employability skills needed for entry into the workforce, including teamwork, adaptability, and professionalism
  • Provide individualized and group training, assistance, and coaching in job search techniques (e.g., resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing skills, etc.) for students by Pathway
  • Champion career awareness and exploration in cooperation with Student Affairs staff, academic departments, and administrative units across the College.
  • Manage and mentor a caseload of assigned students through appreciative, positive, and responsive relationships, proactively monitoring student progress toward academic and career goals, intervening, as necessary
  • Assist students via scheduled appointments, drop-in visits, and email correspondence
  • Co-construct appropriate academic plans with students, including short-term and long-term course selection
  • Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student within Navigate360
  • Initiate referrals to faculty, academic program chairs/coordinators, or other academic resources as needed
  • Empower and encourage students to advocate for their success academically, personally, and professionally
  • Provide daily oversight to a Co/Lab, maintaining a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for student interactions
  • Develop, promote, and facilitate workshops within the Co/Labs designed to assist students with their transition to college, help them to foster a sense of belonging at the College, explore academic and career possibilities, and connect them with campus support services
  • Collaborate with College offices, faculty, and other stakeholders to schedule and promote a variety of programming and resources within the Co/Labs, drawing students into the Co/Labs to engage in valuable educational and co-curricular opportunities
  • Engage in cross-collaboration among Co/Labs to review and assess student support, events, and services
  • Work closely with Co/Lab student employees, providing daily direction, as needed
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. students, colleagues, stakeholders) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  2. One year of related experience (e.g. working in an educational environment and/or with stakeholders serving students, etc.)
  3. A valid state-issued driver's license
