This position will remain open until filled GENERAL SUMMARY: The Town of Lexington is seeking applications for an IT Intern with a passion for technology, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with IT Staff to assist with day-to-day operations, help desk, planning, research, and other internal projects. We are looking for someone who has outstanding customer service, strong verbal and written communication and analytical problem-solving skills. WILL LEARN THE FOLLOWING CONCEPTS: Will work with the Applications and Systems Administrator and the Network Administrator to become familiar with: - Providing technical support to all municipal staff - Maintaining and managing workstations/devices and their software across all municipal departments - Creating a variety of self-help/training documentation - Managing virtual machines and backups - Creating PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive tasks - Developing a basic understanding of network infrastructure - Software infrastructure applications including monitoring and management tools and operating systems Will work with Project Managers to become familiar with: - Scanning and digitizing paper records and historical documents - The Town's digital document repository of historical and current permitting documentation. Develop an understanding of DBMS: folder structure, templates, volumes, index files, metadata, annotations, and security - Lexington's Permitting and Licensing Software system. Utilize OpenGov to gain an introduction to cloud-based, SAAS permitting software. Help to design forms and workflows across town Departments that allow for an all-digital interface to municipal permitting Will work with the Director of Innovation and Technology to become familiar with: - The department's budget and planning process MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: - Enrolled in an undergraduate program - Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize and analyze significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy - Ability to work in the United States without the need for current or future Town sponsorship QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to: Operate computer and various hardware/software necessary for performing assigned duties. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationships. Analyze problems, identify alternatives and solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions. Work well in times of stress, performing multiple tasks at one time. Learn and adapt to new technologies/systems/architectures. Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures and regulations. Work collaboratively and effectively with various departments. Demonstrate & practice effective interpersonal communication, presentation, problem solving and analytical skills. Maintain efficient and effective automated systems. Schedule: 24 hours/week through August 2025. Salary: $23/hour, no benefits. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is performed in a normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc. Work may be performed remotely as required by the Town. May be required to crouch, crawl, stand for long periods of time and lift computer equipment. Office equipment (personal computer, computer peripherals, telephone, calculator, copier, mobile devices, facsimile, etc), servers, network equipment, testing equipment, small hand tools and passenger vehicle. Must be sighted and able to perceive and discriminate colors and visual cues. Must be able to perceive and discriminate sounds and speak at a normal rate of conversation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color discrimination and the ability to adjust focus. Work requires extended periods of sitting, reaching, typing, and mousing, which requires eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Frequently lifts and/or moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
