Job Title: Food R&D Specialist
Work Location: Los Angeles, CA (Onsite)
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm
FLSA: Exempt, Direct-Hire, Full-Time
OVERVIEW:
A leading and growing food manufacturer in Los Angeles, CA is currently seeking a Food R&D Specialist to join their corporate R&D team. Reporting to the R&D Manager, this role involves supporting a variety of projects, including plant trials and collaborations with manufacturing facilities, suppliers, sales teams, and equipment/packaging vendors. The position requires technical expertise and product development skills under a supervision, working 40% in desk/lab environments and 60% in manufacturing areas. Step-up oppotunity is avairable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT ARE LIMITED TO:
Product Development: Execute experiments to improve existing products and develop new ones, including shelf-life testing, packaging testing, sensory evaluation, and other procedures.
Testing & Implementation: Design and conduct tests for new technologies, production processes, and systems.
Data Management: Record and manage data, reports, summaries, evaluations, and related files.
Sales Support: Assist the Sales team with sample generation, technical assistance, and customer presentations.
Project Management: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure project success from bench-top to commercialization.
Specifications Management: Manage internal and customer spec databases, collaborate with customers for spec and label development, and handle the Genesis nutritional program and ingredient statements. Regulatory Compliance: Review labels and films for regulatory compliance and provide technical feedback. Collaboration: Work with customers, ingredient suppliers, and equipment/packaging vendors as needed. Inventory Management: Maintain adequate inventories of project ingredients and organize or delegate to R&D Tech for sample library maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Culinary Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant product development experience, preferably in a food processing environment.
Knowledge of regulatory standards including NLEA, GMP, HACCP, and ORGANIC certification requirements.
Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Familiarity with product formulation, microbiology, sanitation principles, and sensory evaluation techniques.

Actual base compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, actual experience, and job performance.
