Job Summary

The University of California, Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) is seeking a dedicated Paramedic Program Director to oversee and manage the Paramedic Education Program. Ensures that the Paramedic Program meets all accreditation, regulatory, and educational standards. Under the direction of the EMS Captain and in collaboration with the Medical Director, the Paramedic Program Director will provide program leadership, curriculum development, programmatic oversight, and student support to maintain a high-quality educational experience.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current CA State Paramedic License or higher (RN, NP, PA, Physician), NAEMSE Instructor 1 or 40 hours of teaching Methodology, Program Director Development Workshop.
  • Bachelor's degree in EMS, Education, Healthcare, or a related field, National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor 1 certification, and Completion of a CoAEMSP Program Director Development Workshop.
  • Three (3) years of administrative or leadership experience in EMS education with three (3) years of documented teaching experience in EMS or allied health programs.
  • Knowledge of CAHEPP/CoAEMSP, NREMT, and California EMS Authority regulations and accreditation standards for paramedic and EMS Program education.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and assessment tools aligned with state and national standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with faculty, students, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Instructor 2 certification.
  • Experience with online and hybrid EMS education methodologies.
  • Experience managing budgets and resource allocation in an educational setting.
  • Experience developing and overseeing clinical partnerships and field internships.
  • Experience with EMCE skills tracking and evaluation Platform.
  • Proficiency in instructional technologies, including Canvas, Zoom, and EMS simulation tools.

Department Overview

The Paramedic Program Director is responsible for ensuring the success of the Paramedic Program by designing and developing curriculum, overseeing instruction, maintaining compliance with accreditation standards, and ensuring high-quality student outcomes. This role also includes leading and overseeing the coordination of clinical and field internship experiences, collaborating with hospital partners, and fostering relationships with local and national EMS organizations.

The Paramedic Program Director operates in the UCDFD EMS Division under the EMS Captain/Pre-Hospital Care Coordinator and in collaboration with the Medical Director. This position oversees all aspects of the Paramedic Program, including compliance with CAHEEP and CoAEMSP accreditation standards, National Registry of EMTs (NREMT), and California EMS Authority (EMSA) requirements. The incumbent ensures effective instruction, fosters community partnerships, and supports student success.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
