Overview
Overview Department 489 is seeking highly motivated individuals for both shipyard and fleet support of the COLUMBIA Class Turbine Generator (TG) sets. D489 engineers are responsible for the assembly, integration, outfitting, test, and problem resolution of delivered TG sets for the state-of-the-art electric drive propulsion system on COLUMBIA Class submarine. Responsibilities
Collaborate with support organization personnel and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical challenges and non-conformances
- Provide engineering oversight to emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction
- Ensuring change notices that support construction activities are being prioritized and worked
- Attend all production meetings to aid in the elimination of holdups
- Interface with technical authority points of contact and provide oversight for translation of drawings into work orders and instructions
- Provide surveillance of manufacturing, inspection, and testing of material at both Quonset Point, RI and Groton, CT
- Drive completion of actions supporting construction, ensure readiness for hardware delivery, reassembly, major move evolutions, component land and key events, including coordination and execution of multidisciplinary engineering evaluations to support construction needs
- Participate in technical discussions with vendor(s), Prime contractor and NAVY customers
- Review internal documentation to assure that requirements have been met
- Preparation of technical correspondence to NAVY customers
- Support various shipyards for maintenance and repair of delivered COLUMBIA Class ships
- Ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with NAVY customers and Electric Boat management.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems engineering or related technical degree
- 4-9 years of related engineering experience
- Working knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, especially in Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and VISIO is required
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance is required
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering with experience with electrical or electromechanical design, and Systems Engineering is preferred.
- Prior design yard, deck plate or construction experience
- Prior overhaul, repair or testing experience
- Knowledge of the shipyard organizational structure and processes
- Familiarity with Electronic Desktop (7G, Work Orders, ELCADD, PCM etc.)
- Familiarity with Team Center (CR/CN experience)
- Prior experience with complex hardware testing
- Active secret clearance
- Prior US Navy experience
Skills
- Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with the Navy customer, in an engineering environment
- Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Candidate must be capable of assigning themselves work priorities and managing time with little to no supervision
- Frequent travel may be required
