HJF is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to provide a full range of pharmacy technical support to the Pharmacist surrounding a specified project. The Pharmacy Tech will handle investigational agents for research studies and assist in major research projects.

This position will be in support of the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) Research Pharmacy.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate physician medication orders for duplication, usual dose, formulary or protocol status and provides for initial administrative and clinical screen.
  • Prepare, package, compound and label oral and parenteral pharmaceutical products for both FDA approved, as well as investigational agents.
  • Maintain automated and/or manual records in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that pharmacy supplies are properly stocked and maintained under supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Provide drug information regarding the stability of extemporaneously compounded oral and parenteral medication, usual doses, drug availability, strength and concentration.
  • Provide protocol information regarding investigational agents to physicians and nurses.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) preferred or required based on state regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in pharmaceutical calculations, medication identification, pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures and sterile product preparation procedures.
  • Technical Knowledge: Pharmacy terminology, knowledge of common intravenous drug stability and compatibility information, knowledge of procedures and techniques for the care, storage and packaging of pharmaceuticals and for filling outpatient prescriptions.
  • Cerner/Genesis experience, highly desired.
  • Customer Service: Ability to interact professionally and courteously with patients, prescriber's, and colleagues.
  • Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in handling medications and patient information to prevent errors.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve basic issues related to prescriptions and insurance.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing workloads and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ethical Conduct: Demonstrates integrity and adheres to ethical and professional standards.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with pharmacy software systems preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a hospital/pharmacy setting.
  • Work schedule: 7a-3:30p. Flexibility may be required.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $17.75-$24.03. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
