Hill International is seeking an Electrical Inspector in San Jose, California



  • Inspect electrical installations on highway infrastructure (e.g., lighting, traffic signals, signage, and control systems).
  • Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), California Electrical Code, and Caltrans standards.
  • Review electrical plans, blueprints, and specifications for accuracy and code compliance before and during construction.
  • Identify and document code violations.
  • Recommend corrective actions to ensure safety and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct performance tests on electrical systems using specialized tools.
  • Verify grounding, bonding, and load balancing of systems.
  • Maintain detailed inspection logs and reports.
  • Provide progress updates and final inspection reports to project managers and regulatory agencies.
  • Work closely with engineers, contractors, and utility companies.
  • Coordinate inspections with other trades to avoid conflicts and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Make on-the-spot decisions regarding construction methods and materials.
  • Approve or reject installations based on field conditions and standards.
  • Travel to various job sites across the highway project.
  • Be present during critical phases of electrical installation.


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical inspection.
  • Highway and Rail / Transit relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans electrical specifications, public utility service requirements, and overhead/underground distribution systems.
  • Experience with low-voltage control systems, traffic management systems, and lighting control.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Must be able to work in the field for extended shifts, nigh time shifts, and weekend shifts, as necessary.
  • Must be local to San Jose or surrounding areas.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license.


The hourly rate for this position is $68.00 - $78.00. The offered salary will be based on the applicants qualifications, education, experience and work location.
