JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Lambert Undergraduate Advising Center at Penn State Harrisburg seeks applicants for the opening of Part-Time Academic Adviser. This opening will serve students by helping them to identify and achieve academic goals, make well-informed educational plans, take advantage of educational opportunities, and navigate the academic environment of the University. The ideal candidate should be student-centered and have a strong understanding of working with a diverse student body.

Job Duties
  • Helping students understand degree requirements.
  • Guiding students in course selection and scheduling.
  • Assisting students in resolving academic concerns.
  • Monitoring students' academic progress.
  • Interpreting University policies, procedures, and curriculum.
  • Assessing students' needs and making appropriate referrals.
  • Supporting the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students through New Student Orientation academic advising.
  • Delivering presentations through various Advising Center programs.
  • Ensuring confidentiality of student records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 or more years' experience in higher education, counseling, education, communications, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • 3 or more years' experience in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience using a variety of office and educational software.
  • Understanding of college student development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
