ELS Lab Assistant - Contract - South Austin, Texas - $16/hr Category: Science & Technology Employment Type: Contract Reference: BH-385343 ELS Lab Assistant - Entry Level 12 month contract Monday through Friday 7 am start and very little overtime $16 per hour - non negotiatble, sorry Benefits offered One year contract with renew or hiring possible by client company. At an intermediate level, performs routine checks and measurements, routine analysis, bottle labeling/inventory, sample bottle storage and disposal, sample management (i. e. storage, archive, disposal, etc.) and provides general lab assistance to environmental laboratory staff. This position utilizes knowledge and experience in own discipline but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues. Cleans and acid washes glass. Performs routine checks and measurements of equipment such as refrigerators, balances, ovens, incubators, etc., and maintain logs of readings. Calibrates, maintains, and sterilizes equipment. Provides general lab assistance to laboratory staff. Monitors and maintains bottle inventory. Labels bottles. Prepares customer supply requests and provides general customer assistance as needed. Performs basic preparatory analyses on samples such as checks of turbidity, pH, etc. Acts as Courier for lab by picking up and or making deliveries to internal and external customers. Coordinates receipt and distribution of supplies and materials. Unpacks and places supplies and materials in storage area and notifies appropriate individuals of receipt. Operates computer to perform data entry and generates reports as directed or required. Complies with the Environmental Laboratory Services safety program, chemical hygiene plan, quality assurance program, pertinent standard operating procedures (SOPs) and applicable regulatory mandates, standards, policies and codes pertaining to assigned duties. Assists with sample receipt (including receipt from customer, checking sample condition, splitting and preserving samples, etc.) as needed. Maintains sample storage areas and assists in retrieving archived samples. Disposes of expired samples according to proper SOP's in a timely manner. Maintains hazardous samples for proper disposal in accordance with proper SOP's and regulatory requirements. Maintains documentation. Assists in the transportation and storage of hazardous waste materials in designated waste storage facilities. Minimum Qualifications One or more years of experience in providing operational support in a commercial environmental laboratory.
