Intern, Engineering

Assist engineers with the design, modification, development, maintenance, and installation of utility and non-utility gas distribution systems.

Assists with planning, designing, and developing related specifications for the installation, betterment, or maintenance of gas systems for assigned projects. May also be required to assist with preparing cost estimates.
1. Reviews construction plans and proposals by outside agencies to mitigate any conflicts with the existing gas network. Assists with providing consultation and in coordinating with contractors working near buried gas facilities. Prepares response letters to requests for plan reviews from other utilities, contractors, architects and developers.
2. Assists Hawai'i Gas personnel in the interpretation of codes, regulations, and company standards as applied to new business projects, mains or services replacement or relocation and LPG installations. Assists with providing technical assistance relating to gas systems and designs to architects, engineers, consultants, and developers.
3. Assists in the evaluation of new business projects to ensure they are compliant with governing regulations and company standards; prepares and submits application for government approvals and fire permits.
4. Assists in the preparation of standards, policies, and procedures to conform with federal and local codes and company standards.
5. Assists the Engineering Department Manager with special projects and performs work in other related areas.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
2. Complies with all applicable MIC and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
3. Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
4. Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Chemical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, and within 1 year of graduating.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications

• Experience in construction or consulting engineering field.
• Experience in the MS Office suite of tools (Word and Excel), MS Project.
• Experience in using Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or CADD.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

• Valid driver's license.
